About the Piece
The idea for this piece came from a photo that a friend took when she was in Peru. The angle of the tree, the variety of leaves, and the mysterious background – all of these things made me want to try to transform the photo into a print. Big Tree in the Jungle is made with two blocks: I ink both plates in black, printing the foreground image as is and “ghosting” the plate with the background foliage several times before printing it to replicate the silvery misty tone of the photograph.
Technique / Materials: Big Tree in the Jungle is an original, hand-carved black and white linocut print. It is printed with oil-based ink on acid-free cotton printmaking paper, with deckled edges. This is an open edition print.
Size: The image is 9” x 12” and the paper is 11” x 15”
